How to animate barber's pole.

Suggested by Pat625.
1. We'll work with this original barber's pole image. (Source image [Public Domain]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barber's_ ... rspole.jpg)

2. Rotate image horizontally (90 degrees).

3. Make a selection of the pole so that, when we make copies of it, it seems seamless. (Notice how i select bottom left at end of red band, and bottom right also at end of red band so that pattern is seamless).

4. Make copies of the selection and repeat them horizontal (enough to cover the width of image, it's okay it's a little longer, it'll work).
Make sure after you merge your copies, to align the left edge of this layer with left edge of image as we'll be animating using a positive Scroll X number meaning moving to the right, so left edges need to be lined up like show below.
This layer will be selected and run script on to animate.

5. Make a copy of original image (rotated) and cut away the pole portion like shown in image. (Put this above the layer created in step 4).

6. Now make the layer in step 4 active and run Scrolling and wraps layer animation Script For GIMP Script.
7. After you're done, just rotate the whole image(animation) back to vertical and you'll have something like this.

8. (Optional step) The animation animates the total length of the layer created in step 4. I noticed i didn't need all the frames i just needed to animate from when the blue band start popping up at the bottom of pole, and included frames to which another blue band started to pop up at bottom of pole again to have an endless animation, and deleted all frames above it to make animation work with less frames, so keeping the file smaller.

Thank you very much, Tin. I could not visualize how to do that for some reason. It would have taken me a long time! :hammer_head:
I put your tutorial into PDF if needed. I do that with Tuts so I can work on them offline. :gimp_clap:

All i am doing in simple terms is animating the pole the whole width of image.
Then having the top layer with the pole portion cut out to reveal the animation, acting as a cover layer.

If you have problem imagining it, just imagine that the pole is the text "An apple a day, keeps the doctor away" and i am just animating that underneath a cover layer which reveal only portion of the text.

Thank you, Tin! I think this is a really nice, neat script! It is a lot of fun, too. Thanks again for the great tut.
